NGOs and PEPSA Unite for Sanitation and Awareness Campaign in Jos Metropolis

On March 16, 2024, Renew Our World Campaign Nigeria, a project under TEAR Fund in Nigeria, collaborated with the Plateau Environment Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) to organize a sensitization walk and sanitation drive in Jos Metropolis.

The Renew Our World team in Plateau State underscored the importance of the event, focusing on raising awareness about waste management and promoting a cleaner environment. They emphasized the value of waste sorting to transform waste into valuable resources.

Mr. Promise Salawu, representing TEARFund Nigeria, emphasized personal responsibility in waste disposal, urging citizens to cease indiscriminate dumping and take control of their waste. He stressed the need for cooperation between the Plateau government and residents to achieve a waste-free state.

Mr. Samuel Dapiya, PEPSA’s Director-General, praised the collaboration with NGOs in educating the public about waste management and cleanliness. He highlighted the practical demonstration of maintaining a waste-free environment during the cleaning exercise.

Additionally, Mr. Dapiya announced the state government’s plans to implement waste recycling initiatives to generate revenue while ensuring environmental cleanliness.

Traders and commuters at Jos Terminus Market expressed gratitude for the initiative, with some actively participating in the cleanup efforts.

The sensitization walk commenced at the Old Airport Junction and concluded at the Jos Terminus Market, with the participation of PEPSA’s Director-General, NGO team leaders, corps members, associates, and volunteers, focusing on addressing plastic and polythene waste specifically.
